Puppy pictures

My landlord's family likes hot peppers

The puppy is at that awkward stage, all ears and legs.

She spends her time hunting bugs.

More birds!

Wire-tailed swallows on a fence in a
downpour. They were not happy birds.

When the rain slowed they gathered on the power-line.

This is a variable sun-bird.  You can see the yellow
breast, and the green and purple head.

A New District

We have started research in Ntchisi district.
It is high and mountainous, and is called the Scotland of Malawi.
The alternation of corn and soybeans reminds me of the Midwest.

Flowers

We have a good gardener, and some beautiful flowers.

The bees love the roses.

The yellow ones are prettiest.

I don't know the name of this one.

On the research station

The early season rains were erratic, and the corn is ragged ages.

In some districts they plant climbing beans and corn together, and the beans climb the cornstalks and mature later.

Here are beans (probably a variety trial) climbing strings.

Here is a bird that visited my house.  I'm fairly sure it is a baby, but not sure what species.

Around the office

Here are a pair of fire finches feeding near our office.
Here is the office block where I work.

Here I am on my bike, near a friend's office.
